An 11-year-old boy is embarking on his second tribute to a dying dog in just one year.
Cole Hein lost his first service dog, Bingo, last fall. The dog was specially trained to alert his parents when Hein would stop breathing due to a condition that makes that happen when he gets sick. His service dog, Bingo, would bark to wake up his mom, Mandi. When Bingo got sick and died last year, Hein created a Lick It List for the dog and asked people to send in treats.
Well now his second service dog has developed a rare condition and she too is dying. Cole's Mom Mandi said the dog dutifully stays beside Hein’s side, despite her illness.
“She still alerts me by nudging, pacing,” said Mandi.
Hein wants to create a second lick it list, but this time to make a rock-garden tribute to Roxy.
“I used to call Roxy my rock, so I’m building her a rock garden,” he explained. “[It’s] for people to send me a rock with their pets or animals they know who are still living, have passed [or] are sick.”
Hein is asking people to write the name of their pet on a rock so he can put it in the garden. Click below for more if you'd like to send a rock and watch their story here:
